Send faxes for free using your web browser.

If you need to send a fax, there are several ways to do it for free, and avoid the per-page charges and inconvenience of having to drive to a mail and copy center.

There are some limitations, but the following options do work well, and the price is right...

  • FaxZero - Up to 3 pages per fax, and two faxes per day for free. It does put an ad on your cover page. Accepts word docs, pdf files, and plain text.
  • FreeFax - No page or per-day limits, but only accepts plain text.
  • Send via web browser Free, no limits, but text only.
  • Send via email Also free. You send an email with a special format that routes it to an email to fax gateway.

Overall, there are decent options if you need to either send text-only faxes regularly, or more complex documents from microsoft word or pdf files occasionally.

If your needs are greater than that, you probably need to look beyond the free options.

I wish I'd known about that last time I was buying a home far away! I didn't have the fax feature set up on my computer because I thought I'd never need it. It cost a fortune to have to fax stuff they wanted back ASAP plus the hassle of having to run to town all the time. Thanks savingtools. :)
