My husband works with a small team of four in a big retail company. I would like ideas for what to give him to take in at Christmas. They all have young families and there's only one female staff member. I want to give them all the same thing that won't cost much to do so it has to be a unisex gift.
I love gifts in a jar! I was given a large jar with a homemade minestrone soup mix one year and it was delicious. They are so easy not just for the giver but for the recipient as well. These are fantastic for a fast dinner or snack.
I bought a Christmas Cookies version at our local church bazaar once and wished I'd bought more after I tried it. If I'd known how good it was I would have got more for gifts. I worried it might not be that great though and just bought one. I've never seen them there since.
Try getting discount gift cards from Restaurant.com. You can get a 25 dollar gift card for only ten bucks. So, its $100 worth of gifts for only $40!!

I just put in an order for six cards for a few select coworkers.
Thanks for the great tip, Carly.

Only dieters. ;) Thanks very much Carly! That's a great idea. I hate buyng gifts for people I don't know that well in case they're allergic to something. That's a good solution.
I wouldn't have thought about allergies until you mentioned it! It would be alright to give gifts in the jar if you added a list of ingredients too then. It doesn't have to be food. You can make bath salts and lotions too. I like the Restaurant.com idea!
You will laugh at my suggestion probably. How about a real poinsetta plant each? They are very Christmassy and not the kind of thing you buy for yourself. You won't have any allergy worries with that.

I'm not laughing here, Zoey. That's a good idea! I know a way it could be made extra special too. Print off a copy of The Legend of the Poinsetta in a fancy font on nice paper and attach that to the gift in an envelope. It gives them a story to tell too at the Christmas dinner table. Not a lot of people know why poinsettas are associated with Christmas.

Do those cards ever expire Carly or are they valid until you spend all of it?
I would be more pleased to get a poinsetta than a gift in a jar. The men might think it's a bit girly though to give that, especially if they have to hand it over to a man. Here's some more gift in a jar recipes, cookiefan. As Savannah said, add a list of ingredients and you won't go wrong.

Walmart had fresh fruit basket gifts made up nicely. I saw them today. I think they were ten bucks and change. Those wouldn't even need wrapping and are unisex. I am really keen on the poinsetta idea though. :)
I'd want the Restaurant card! Any excuse to go and eat out and get a break from the cooking. :)

I would want to give the poinsetta because it would look pretty but get the card LOL. The card's lifespan would be longer, trust me.
I'm glad some liked the poinsetta idea and putting the verse with it would have been perfect, Jewel. What did you end up doing, cookiefan?
In my opinion, it is best to gift each employee with an identical gift, from the janitor to the CEO to prevent any from getting their feelings hurt, thus causing an uncomfortable office environment.
Your coworkers do understand that the economy is in a rut, and any gift is thoughtful. Try small gift bags with the shape of a brown lunch bag. (These come in packs of 8-12 for around a buck) stuffed with candy, inspiring quotes and a thoughtful note.

Sorry Zoey! I'm slow here with replying. I went with the poinsetta and the story and it was a big hit! It was so easy to do too. I'll be giving that out again next Christmas where I can.
Tyra, nice to meet you! Welcome to savingtools.com. That's a good point about keeping them all the same. I wanted to give identical gifts because even if you pay the same, one person might think another got a better gift. That's so much simpler.
Well, its the same principle that you use with your children when they have birthday parties in grade school., you invite every child in the class...

Why don't you make some of those gifts in a jar mixes? The foodie ones are easy to make in bulk and you can get the majority of the ingredients at the dollar store, plus jars. The homemade touch makes them special. I like this recipe for White Chocolate Chunk Brownies. There's millions more recipes out there.
