According to this article, that's what the experts are predicting. One of the expert says "there are several reasons for optimism" for 2011. Are you feeling that?

I'm not convinced. Although the way people were spending in the stores over Christmas you would think we hadn't had a recession at all! I could be wrong. That's just my own small impression from how busy they still were. I will remain cautious just as I did this year and not assume everything's fine. To let loose now could be a big mistake after being careful about our spending up till now.

I would love to think that we'll all have more cash to spare and better employment opportunities, but I don't think that's realistic just yet. Greenmachine makes a good point. You can't believe everything you read by experts because if you look hard enough you'll always find another equally well qualified expert expressing the opposite view. I like to read what they say and make up my own mind.

I want to be optimistic, I really do but I'm not. I see businesses closing every day in our neighborhood and the remaining ones aren't hiring. You can't blame them for doing the best they can with their current staff and resources. The local kids that would normally pick up seasonal jobs weren't getting them over the holidays either and that's why. I think we've got a long road to go down before we're on the brink of normality and it will be years, not months.

I have a healthy suspicion of expert opinions. Funny how they never seem to be the guys that are out of work. Ever! No I don't see a big turnaround this year. Maybe in 2012 at the soonest there will be more reason for optimism. Today? No.

That's true. And how do we know any expert doesn't have an ulterior motive for saying everything's going to be great? I'm an old cynic.

All I know is fuel's going back up and my bills aren't getting any lighter. I care about my household economy first and the big economy second. We've all got to look out for ourselves because no-one else is going to do it.
