I get mine when they start stocking them in the stores and every year they drop the price the closer it gets to Thanksgiving. I worry that I'll wait too long and they will be all gone if I do that! What do you do?
You must have nerves of steel, cheapncheerful. If my turkey's not in the freezer a week ahead of time, I get worried. I'll be buying mine by Wednesday at the latest.
I do have a backup plan every year in case they are out of stock. I buy a ham when they have them on sale earlier in the year and don't eat it until Thanksgiving has passed. I guess that's why I never worry too much about the turkey. :)
Ohhhh, sneaky! LOL. I might be brave this year too then. There's a big picnic ham in mine too. I wasn't thinking that I could make a different dish if the store had none! Silly me. :) Thanks for the tip.
I bought my turkey today. My nerves wouldn't hold out LOL. :) I hope you all get big bargains!
I saw sweet potatoes for 33c a pound today and snapped some up. I'm going to watch the turkey stocks over the weekend and if I don't see the freezers restocked by the early morning Monday, I'll buy mine. Empty or low stocked freezers can mean they aren't getting another delivery or don't have any in the back to fill it up. If there appears to be plenty, I'll wait till Tuesday.
We won't be having our Thanksgiving meal until the Sunday because of conflicting work schedules, so I have time. Don't forget that they take days and days to defrost properly in the fridge, anything up to 5 days depending on the weight.

I wait until Thanksgiving week before I buy mine. That's when you get the best deals. I've never went to the store and found them sold out. For my area at least the stores stock plenty and some years I can get a couple on sale after Thanksgiving.
