I was in a thrift store this afternoon and saw a lady buying underwear. I'll buy almost anything but underwear? I couldn't wear second hand underwear and I don't care how new it looks. Is there anything you draw the line at when you're bargain hunting?

I couldn't do that either! I think of a mattress in the same way. I wouldn't feel happy sleeping on a mattress another person might have died on LOL. Okay, that's unlikely but that's what I think about.

I've never buy a used mattress again now you've put that idea into my head. I did once at a flea market. The bed I'd inherited was killing my back and I couldn't stretch to a whole new bed. This mattress was all wrapped in plastic and spotless so I bought it for $60 and it was fine.
I won't buy second hand underwear. I'd be embarrased to hand it in to a thrift store too! Old underwear gets recycled as dusters in my house and that's all.

I agree with all of the above. Another thing I wouldn't buy is old appliances. I'm not going to burn down the house or blow some circuits because unsafe wiring. Using it as a ornament or decoration like my retro toaster that's alright but I'd worry about sticking it in a socket.

Underwear - never. Old mattress - 110% no. It would still have all the years of the original owner's skin cells deep deep down inside it. That gives me the heebie jeebies and I don't believe any cleaning would be enough to get them all out. Appliances - I'd buy them if the wiring didn't look worn and it wasn't rusty or filthy.

Also on my list would be anything from a house where the animals were scratching all the time.

I agree with all of that especially the scratching. I sure wouldn't take a sofa or carpet from a house that could be infested with fleas. It would cost more to get rid of the pesky critters than you'd save by buying the sofa if you had to fumigate the house. No thanks.
