I know that not everyone likes to go to Las Vegas, but if you are considering it, here are some darn good tips to keep the cost down.
There isn't really an off-season in Las Vegas, but some people try to avoid the blistering summer months. You're also wise to avoid holidays and spring break. One of the biggest annual periods (with prices to match) is NCAA Basketball's Final Four weekend. It's always easy to find flight and vacation deals for Vegas, so do your homework.

Thanks micharch! For Vegas fans there's another thread too about ways to save on a Las Vegas trip that shares more ideas. When the chips are down and the cards are on the table (ok, no more Vegas puns LOL), you don't want to be deserting the bargains.
Groan...and don't think I missed you sneaking in the desert joke there LOL.
I like the outdoors but what a crazy fun place Vegas sounds! I don't know how any ordinary family could afford it. Did you see the news about the Paul McCartney show there? A one night only deal and it sold out in seven seconds.
A new Vegas deal is out for a free flight and hotel night with a Southwest Vacations package. The blogger said you find the best deals by trying different date and hotel combinations.
Between the flight and the room, I knew this had to be a better deal than it originally tested out to be. So, I tried again on different dates and staying at the Bellagio instead of TI. For Aug. 19-22 the Southwest Vacations package price came to $645. If booked independently the price was $568 for the rooms and $258 for the flights for a total of $826. On this itinerary, booking through Southwest Vacations would save you $181.

I depresses me reading about bargains when I can't afford them LOL. I hope you guys get a good deal if you go. :)

Know the feeling. Surely there's a "poor man's Vegas" near you somewhere? Here in Texas, there are American Indian run Casino's just over the border in Oklahoma, as well as riverboat casinos in Shreveport, Lousiana.
Aside from the fact that you can drive, they usually have cheaper gambling, like more nickle machines, and blackjack with a $1 minimum. Fun tends to last a little longer, even if it's not Vegas.
Tunica, Mississippi would be the closest casinos to you cookiefan and there's the dog tracks at West Memphis. You're within about three hours to Tunica and about four to West Memphis. You could make a weekend of that. :)
There's a 48 hour sale at South Point Casino in Las Vegas going on now.
LAS VEGAS, NV - South Point Hotel and Casino has slashed the prices of their hotel rooms for the next 48 hours. From now until Thursday, July 23 at 9 am, you can buy one night at the prevailing rate and get one night of equal or lesser value for FREE. That's equal to 50% the normal room rates.
This promotion was created to help drive the advance bookings for the hotel during the slower summer season in Las Vegas. It was created by the hotel staff to allow for everyone to be able to take a vacation, even when on a budget.
"With the tightened budgets this summer, we wanted to offer a vacation that everyone can afford," said property owner Michael Gaughan.
Rates for a weeknight stay are $70. With the buy one get one free promotion, that comes out to $35 per night for a two night stay!
Reservations must be booked from the hotel's website before 9am on Thursday. The offer is good for travel through the first of October 2009.
Additional information about the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa can be found at http://www.southpointcasino.com.
