Has anyone every made one of those solar cookers? It's like those reflector things you use to get a face tan, but it directs heat onto a black pot inside a glass dish. It's supposed to do a good job. Thought it would be fun for camping, but I'm not sure if it's really hard to make. I'd hate to go through the trouble if it didn't work that well...

Re: Solar Cooker

I've never tried it myself but have seen them reviewed. There are several differences between them and depends a lot on your own needs, eg are you talking about backpack camping or will you have a car to carry it in.

If you're up for experimenting since they aren't cheap, how about a $5 Kyoto box instead. One Amazon reviewer suggesting looking into that instead of getting the $40 product he'd bought.

The design won the 2009 $75,000 Financial Times and HP Climate Challenge. Not a bad recommendation there! I don't know where they're commercially available though.

Re: Solar Cooker

Now that has all the markings of a fun summer project! I'm going to check out what I've got in the shed and see if I can find some suitable boxes. Thank you, Jewel. :)

Re: Solar Cooker

I want to try that too! I need to get boxes at the grocery store next time I'm in. I don't have anything that would fit nice and snug like that and not be too deep. Thanks for bringing that up rleahy. :)

Re: Solar Cooker

Yippee! Yes I want to make one. Let's set a date to have ours done by and show them off? What do you guys think?  By the end of July? I have some plans I want to try, the Fun Panel Solar Cooker. It's collapsible and an easy design for taking the pot in and out. http://solarcooking.wikia.com/wiki/Fun-Panel The kids and husband are on board. We're science geeks so this will be fun!!!

I'll look forward to seeing how you all get on! :) Not my kind of thing. I think your option's easiest of all, rleahy.
