I found out today Georgia has a program called the Regular Home Energy Assistance Program. The state hands out checks to low income families of between $310-$350 to help with fuel bills. It's a single payment and is available for six months of the year.
The income thresholds are listed as:
* $15,600 for a one-person household;
* $21,000 for a two-person household;
* $26,400 for a three-person household;
* $31,800 for a four-person household;
* $37,200 for a five-person household;
* $42,600 for a six-person household;
* $48,000 for a seven-person household;
* $53,400 for a eight-person; and add $5,400 for each additional household member for larger households.
The program runs from Nov-May. There's a couple more requirements you need to check you match beforehand under Eligibility Requirements. Don't bother applying if your utilities are part and parcel of your subsidized housing rent because you wouldn't get it but if you think you could, apply now. It's a toll free number.

I don't know Kay but I'll see if I can find that information out for you. My niece told me about it. I'll check with her when she calls next or emails. Three hundred dollars is a good windfall, yes.

Thanks cheapncheerful! We're always glad to hear of new ways to keep our dollars in our bank accounts that bit longer. Do you have any idea if that's only available in Georgia or do more states offer the same program? Three hundred dollars is an excellent saving, winter or summer.
