How do you keep the cost of sodas down?

I know, it's almost cruel to be complaining when it's so hot. I am spending a king's ransom on sodas! What can I do? We need cold drinks and they complain they don't like the own brand ones. It's got to be Coke or Pepsi products.

You're too kind! I'd buy the generics and let them get on with it. If they are hot enough, they'll drink them. Can't you get them to try some of the powdered drinks like Kool-aid? They are very cheap in Wal-mart and the dollar stores.

Actually I don't think the Kool-aid type drinks work out that much cheaper than the sodas do. By the time you count in the cost of the sugar the price doesn't look so good anymore. I just try stock up whenever they have them on sale and watch for the manufacturers coupons too Savannah.

I must be a mean mommy. I only let them have 8 oz of sweet drinks a day. The rest is water and milk. I might let it be chocolate milk sometimes. Soda and soft drinks are terrible wastes of money. When it's water or nothing, they'll drink the water, or hang out at their friends' houses and get soft drinks there!

LOL, good idea! Send them to their pal's house. :) Sodas are so bad for you too! I was reading that they are not good at all if you have high blood pressure and drink more than two cans a day.

At least chocolate milk has the goodness of milk in it too, rleahy. Sodas are just useless calories. I don't like the diet sodas at all either. Walmart's had Coke products on sale for $5 for a 24 box for about two months, Savannah. That's the cheapest I know of for the brand names.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I am too soft now that you mention it. I'm going to buy some generics and more bottled water instead. They will probably drink it if there's nothing else anyway. Maybe I should make the kids buy their own if they want the real thingand then they might appreciate how expensive they are.

Pennywise, I'd saw that and got some at Walmart. I think that promotion's finished now. I was there yesterday and they were back up in price. I wish I'd stocked up on them now! I'd got so used to seeing the $5 price tag I thought it was permanent.

I grow mint in the back yard/patio all year long. What I have been doing for years is to break off a few mint sprigs, crush them in my hand, place them in the bottom of a large tumbler and fill with lots of ice, then lots of water (in that order). The ice on top if the mint leaves keeps the leaves @ the bottom of the tumbler.
Mint-water anyone?

Ohhhhhh, that sounds so refreshing!! I had mint on my kitchen window sill once but I killed it. I love the smell of it too. I must get another plant and try that. Thanks, micharch! :)

I like the mint water idea too. I'm not that crazy about sodas and plain water is on the boring side. I'd be buying them the cheap ones, Savannah. I bet they don't get left on the shelf. :)
