If you spend a lot of money each year trying to rid your yard of mosquitoes and other pests with no luck, I think you should consider installing a bat house on your property. I have had much success with mine after reading about it 2 years ago.Natural Mosquito Control While it doesn't eliminate them completely, I was amazed at how dramatically the population was reduced. I couldn't come close to these results with all the chemicals I invested in. Plus, I wasn't happy using them with pets and children around. I think this is the safest and most economical way of getting rid of mosquitoes.
Nice to meet you Jackie! Bats don't bother me at all. I think they would be more frightened of us than vice versa. I hate putting down poison around the yard. It's a nuisance when you have pets or little ones around, yes. We had a bad year for ticks last summer and had to put Roundup everywhere. Do you know if they eat them too?
I love bats. They are the best natural insect control device ever created. Less than 20 miles from our place lives a colony of Mexican Free Tail bats that number about 40,000,000 in the summer. That includes a female and her lone pup. The attached link mentions only 20,000,000, but that is before they have their pup in the spring. The pups usually stay in the cave while mom goes out to eat. They often are so thick when leaving the entrance at sundown that they show up on airport radar. It's a real treat to observe it. When they return from feeding in the AM, the mom can somehow find her pup in the crowd. Not sure how they can verify this, but that's what the experts say.

Yuck, that would give me the creeps. No thanks LOL. They are vermin in my mind the same as rats are. That is amazing they can find their young like that.
Nice to meet you, Jackie! :)
Hi Jackie, welcome and nice to meet you. :) We have bats in our area. I've seen a few out at dusk. I didn't know they controlled mosquitos and I might have to give that some serious thought. I'm sick of dousing myself in Off every summer and smelling of that stuff. Thanks very much for the link and I hope you join in more. :)

Hi Jackie, welcome to savingtools.com. :) That's an interesting idea though not for me. I'm scared of bats and would rather have the bugs instead LOL. I saw a movie years ago where one got tangled in a girl's hair and it freaked me out. Wouldn't you have problems with bat droppings everywhere? I thought they were messy creatures.
