I just found out the other day that it's possible to freeze flour. My local store had it on sale and I wanted to stock up but didn't want it to go bad in some way before I could use it all. That's when I found out. Who knew? :) You just wrap it up well and pop it in there.

Re: Freezing flour

I didn't know you could do that either and I'm kicking myself now because I've passed up flour bargains loads of times. Like you I didn't think I could get through it all before it would go out of date. Thanks for the tip, pennywise!

Re: Freezing flour

You can freeze other grains like rice as well. It also stops the beasties from getting into the flour and rice.

Re: Freezing flour

I've never tried it with flour but I do know you can do that. It just not a product I think to stock up on and I should because I bake a lot. I'd be interested in what the quality's like compared to non-frozen flour.

My neighbor's a very good baker and I asked her about this before because she does it. Her answer was she's had no complaints, so make of that what you will! :)

It's handy to do that - until you forget to take it out to defrost LOL. I went to make dinner rolls tonight and all my flour was frozen. Grrrr...

Re: Freezing flour

Savannah, I don't know why because I opened my test bag of flour yesterday and it was fine. It was just cold, but not frozen in a solid lump or anything. Did the bag possibly get wet before you put it in the freezer? That's all I can think of it could have been.
