Here's how they are supposed to help with check fraud if anyone is interested....
Dye Ink vs. Pigmented Ink – A Critical Difference
Using a pen with Pigmented Ink instead of Dye Ink can help prevent identity theft.
Uni-ball Pens Contain Pigmented Ink.
Dye Inks Don't Work
They stain the paper, changing the color of the paper and its fibers. Removing dye ink is easy. Using bleach or common household chemicals, thieves can wash the paper back to its natural color.
Pigmented Ink Helps Prevent Identity Theft
Pigmented Ink changes the paper itself. It’s not a dye. The ink weaves its way into the paper’s fibers where the ink’s pigments (discrete color particles) embed themselves into the heart of the paper, making it impenetrable to many washing and bleaching techniques. (Pigmented inks also have the added benefit of providing more vibrant colors, and are fade- and water-resistant without sacrificing performance).
Using uni-ball pens with pigmented ink is an easy and inexpensive way to protect yourself against identity theft.
Why wouldn't you use a uni-ball?
Did You Know?
Check washing is a form of check fraud where criminals steal checks from the mail (or other means) and erase the ink on the checks using common household cleaning solutions. The criminals can then re-write the check to themselves for any amount. According to the latest American Bankers Association Deposit Account Fraud Survey Report, actual dollars lost to check fraud was $969 million in 2006.
Do the Science – And Then Do the Math
Keep from losing hundreds of thousands of dollars as a result of identity theft. Be sure to sign all your important documents with a uni-ball pen.

I definitely thought this would have been long gone by now and it hasn't yet so I got a pen as well. You can never be too careful. Thank you greenmachine. :)
My pen arrived in the mail yesterday. This was a fast one! I like it and hope I don't get it on my clothes because I doubt this would wash out. Keep your eyes peeled for yours arriving soon. :)
Did you actually get the pen in the mail? I know sometime sites make offer to collect emails and was wondering if this was one of them?
update - disreguard - I see others said they received one. Will try myself too- wish me luck =)
Just to reassure you, mybridgecard: this is for real. And it's a very nice sturdy pen too!
If you're worried about email harvesting do what most freebie fans do and get an email address to use that's not your main one, like hotmail or yahoo, or use a disposable email service like guerillamail. That lets you get any confirmation emails without choking your main inbox with follow up ones.

I've emailed myself so I remember to do that tomorrow. I treat my inbox like a to-do list. Crazy I know! Whatever works eh. Thanks, greenmachine :)
