Hi eveyone, this is my first post. I wanted to open up a topic on email scams and do you think these are increasing. I must receive anywhere from 20 to 70 a week. Most are from banking, for example, HSBC or Lloyds Tsb, claiming my account password has been entered wrong several times and i now should do such and such to correct it. Another scam i get loads of mail in regards to is - i have been left a massive inheritance from somebody in Egypy, so please reply to this email. I have to admit, i am tempted to reply to see what they ask for next. Has anybody gone along with it for a while?

Welcome Jon. :) No I haven't because that wouldn't be smart. You have no idea what that could trigger. Better to let sleeping dogs lie and not respond.
Forward any such emails to their internet provider's abuse dept. You can find their provider from the message source of the email. You can also report them to the FTC.

Re: Email scams

The only way these scams will stop is when more people report them. It's down to us, you and I, to do that and to spread the word on how to.  Welcome to savingtools.com, Jon. :)

welcome aboard!  yes, phishing scams are everywhere.  One of our readers made a post about a fairly big incident involving USAA:

Jon, welcome to savingtools! I'd not do that if I were you. You never know where it may lead. Best I think to just block and delete.
