Any bright but cheap ideas about my bathroom? There's no way I can install a new bathroom suite.
It has an avocado green bathroom suite with a shower installed over the bath. I hate the color. It never looks clean! The walls are fake wood paneling in mid brown and the lino is a golden brown. None of these would be my choice but that's what came with the house. The paneling especially makes it dark and dingy. The room's small and square (you could sit on the toilet seat and touch the sink and bath) and the dark colors make it feel even smaller.
Here's a rough plan, not to scale. The reddish color's the mirrors and window. I've got a big square mirror above the sink and one mirrored cabinet facing that, but that doesn't make much difference. There's one overhead light that's above the mirror over the sink and there's one small rectangular window just under the roof level. Problem is when I pull the shower curtain aside during the day it still hides the window's light. The blue items are narrow shelves. Thanks!
You could put mirror tiles on one of the walls. Your window wall appears to have the most space. That will lighten the whole room up and make the most of the light you have by reflecting it. Another light in the center of the ceiling would too.
Can you paint the panels? I don't know if paint adheres to that kind of surface. Replacing them would be a nuisance with all the pipework and not cheap.
I'm not sure either. I'll need to look into that. Thanks for the suggestion! :) I don't want to rip them out unless it's essential for both those reasons.

Aren't mirror tiles a bit 1960's? My aunt had them all around her bathroom and did nothing but complain about how hard they were to keep clean. My uncle was thrilled, having spent days gluing them all up LOL. I don't know, I'll think more about that. If I did that I might get away without needing another light. The lighting is awful and I'd thought about that too before. I have no idea what kind of state the wiring's in, which dissuaded me.
Thanks, pennywise. :)
Kay, for ultra fast fixes bright colored towels and a bright shower curtain would help. I have canary yellow and lime towels in mine and it gives the whole bathroom a boost. There's quite a few shelves by the looks of it? Narrow shelves can hold handtowels, facecloths or bright ornaments.
All good ideas! The lighting and mirrors would make the whole area feel much bigger. You can get full length mirrors for bathroom walls now, you know. Mirror tiles would be cheaper. Trends are cyclical and I'd say mirror tiles are ready for a rerun. You could be a trendsetter, Kay. :) A wall of plain white tiles would make it lighter too.
Not too keen on the mirror tiles I gather. :) Greemachine's suggestion of white tiles would work well. I also like white tiles for their brightness. Remember to break up white tiles with an accent pattern. One single tile with a design every so often helps the tiles stop looking too clinical. "Public toilet" is not a good look LOL. You'll save yourself headaches by placing the accent tiles randomly.
I got some neon green towels at Dollar General on clearance today. Half price! :) If you're wanting bright colored towels, pop in there. They had cerise, turquoise and yellow as well.

When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a rose with the other.
