If you want to fly anywhere, it would be smart to book your flight now before they jump!

Average airfares over Thanksgiving week (from Nov. 20 to Nov. 27) are 6% higher this year, according to data compiled by Hotwire. In December, airfares are projected to be about 10% higher than last year.

There's tips on how to save on Thanksgiving flights in the article.

Also, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (aside from the week of Thanksgiving) are generally the cheapest times to fly. During the week of Thanksgiving, however, flying on Thursday and returning Friday will cost substantially less than arriving on Wednesday and departing on Sunday.
The average cost of a flight departing on Thursday and returning Friday is $281, while the average cost a flight departing on Wednesday and returning Sunday is $441, according Travelocity.

$441 vs. $281?!  That's price gouging if you ask me, bumping it up when all folks want is to spend a few more days with family. You can't tell me it costs them more to get the plane off the ground one day than any other!

What a rip-off that is. And I don't buy that it's because they have to pay their staff higher rates over the holidays either as some might suggest. You don't see any other business doing that to cover their payroll costs.

True, Kay. This article tells you the cheaper airports to use if you can. That's one way to reduce the costs.

Flying to one of these five cities in the U.S.? Then you should expect to pay a much lower price to get there. According to the Bureau of Transportation statistics, these airports' fares are significantly less than the average $356 domestic airfare.

And conversely, these are the airports with the most expensive domestic fares. To be avoided if at all possible if you don't want your wallet to weep.

I'm glad I don't have the money to fly around the country for Thanksgiving some days, and this is one of those days! LOL

Yeah, sometimes it works in my favor to be poor as a church mouse too! ROFL. Seriously, that's bad. Frequent fliers should boycott the airlines that do that the rest of the year in protest. They are more influential than any one or two trips a year type passenger.
